OUR BEGINNING

ICWHY LTD was created as a 501(c)(3) in August of 2023, after several years of discussion with family and friends. Our Founder, Mitch Richard, organized the first annual Golf Outing in 2008 to benefit Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Union County. Through years of successful work as a solo organizer, a partnership was formed with OHIO811/O.U.P.S. in 2011 to support the Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Union County with an annual Sporting Clays Shoot. The idea of formally creating a non-profit organization to facilitate this work finally came to fruition in 2023 after many years of thoughtful / stressful planning.

Many notes and ideas were jotted down over the years, but there was always something in life that kept interfering with the go-ahead to start the business.
Happy to say, we have finally reached a place in time where the proper steps can be taken to make this dream a reality.

Today, with the help of numerous friends and family, HERE WE GO!

For 37 years now, (and counting) Mitch has been employed with the "Call Before you Dig" world of construction and with support from OUPS / OHIO811 and several construction and developer companies and friends coming together, he was able to raise significant amounts of money to support the underserved youth of Ohio. With the industry putting its foot forward and gathering to support Ohio's Youth in Need, we strive to continue the work and grow our support for many organizations involving our youth of need in Ohio.

ABOUT OUR LOGO

Our STARTING logo began the way many great ideas do—late at night, with a rough sketch and a hopeful message. One evening I drew what can only be described as a very enthusiastic but artistically questionable concept and sent it to my granddaughter Baylee with a simple request: “Make this better please.” (To be fair, that wasn’t a high bar to clear.)
Baylee took that sketch and created the first real version of the design which you can see on the right. In her drawing, all of the elements representing what ICWHY stands for were already there—it just needed a little polishing to help it truly stand out.
After sharing the design with several folks, I realized it still didn’t quite pop the way I envisioned. That’s when I reached out to Maureen “Mo” Beardman with OHIO811. From that point forward, the logo journey officially entered what I like to call the “Eye Examination Phase.”
Mo and I reviewed over 100 different eye shapes and colors—yes, more eyes than most people see in a lifetime. After many rounds of adjustments, tweaks, and probably a few moments where we wondered if the logo was judging us, we finally narrowed it down to the Top 3 contenders.
I then presented those three options to my two sons and several friends and asked them to choose their favorite. To my amazement, most of them picked the same one Mo & I liked—proving either we have great collective taste…or I asked just the right people.
That selection became the logo we proudly display today.
A big thank you to everyone who helped along the way, and a special shout-out to Mo, who stuck with me on the process through 50+ revisions before we finally landed on the perfect design.
And of course, thank you, Baylee, for providing the original blueprint that started it all. Turns out my late-night doodle just needed the right team to bring it to life.
